The two existing NS Gallatin EAFs are equipped with early versions of the A. Longo EAF Taphole AutoSand device and SlagBuster.

This week, for their new furnace, NS Gallatin will receive upgraded versions of the A. Longo AutoSand device (US patented), and Sliding SlagPlunger.

The systems will allow complete remote sanding of the taphole: The SlagPlunger breaks the slag in the sump panel port before the AutoSand moves into position to dispense the correct amount of sand into the taphole – the system is remotely monitored and controlled by the operator in the Pulpit via an onboard camera system.

A. Longo (www.ALongoConsulting.com) has been designing and building EAF Taphole AutoSand systems for approximately 8 years and consistently innovating the custom designs to accommodate varying furnace and operational conditions.
